God has a strange sense of humor, and a strange sense of timing. Tonight (honestly, I’ve noticed that these posts are getting later and later. I was several days ahead, then I was posting on the same day, then I was posting at three or four in the morning, now I’m posting on the next day… technically I haven’t skipped a day yet… technically) I was supposed to be going out on a sort of date with not-Sarah. Obviously that’s not going to happen. However, God clearly opened up tonight for a reason, and last night I was talking to girl who wants to learn Greek. So, tonight I’m going to be introducing her to Vietnamese food and the Koine Greek language all at the same time. Like I said, God has a strange sense of timing.
I’ve found that I’m really not good at telling when a girl is interested in me. I really thought that not-Sarah was interested, but obviously I was wrong. The girl I’m getting together with tonight… we’ll call her Hand… that will be a fun inside joke on the slim chance she ever reads this… (I actually met her a few months ago, but I don’t really know her very well) has also seemed to be interested off and on, but I think that has more to do with her personality than it has to do with me.
Nonetheless, not-Sarah turning me down opened up the only time that Hand and I could get together to talk about Greek. So, I have to come back to the fact that God knows what he’s doing. He’s a jerk about it sometimes, and he really never tells me what he’s doing… I find that I usually have to figure it out in retrospect and suddenly I have these ‘aha!’ moments where God’s hand guiding my life is suddenly extremely obvious. I think I’d rather know what’s coming from the beginning than have to figure it out in retrospect. However, I never seem to actually have any choice in the matter, so whining about that seems rather pointless.
Yesterday I also had my first day off in a long time. I ran into a friend who was very surprised that I was actually taking a day off. She asked if I was tired of trying to work myself to death… which I suppose is a pretty fair question. However, I spent most of the day yesterday sitting in my favorite chair at my favorite coffee shop playing a videogame that was made in 1992. Needless to say, it is an awesome game… and the fact that it was made in or before the year that many of the Baristas in the coffee shop were born made me laugh very hard.
The game is called Darklands and it’s a sandbox historical fantasy game set in 1500s Germany. It really is an awesome game, and it’s currently available from gog.com. When I bought the game it was all of $2. So… I have to get back to grading now. I just wanted to take a break and record some thoughts before I forgot about them.
